where are you going in Canada that running Ac is that crucial? I've had several RVs, hottest weeks of the summer here, and still don't run my AC. Yes, I could. Just not that crucial and it cools down by dark.

also, phone border and ask them if no passport means no entry. i think they'll still let ya cross by car with DL & birth certificate. might get a lecture, but if you explain you called ahead to make sure it was okay, the lecture usually stops.

Post Re: Generator
I have an Inverter Honda 2000 and its been a great machine. Keep buying south and don't bitch when we have to support more unemployed people. Not to mention no dealer representation up here. If I had a customer buy somthing out of territory for pricing reasons and he was looking for product support I would put him on the bottom of the pile. Back to the Honda its a great machine but not enough for an AC. If you are border line power on the AC power requirments it's hard on the AC. You might be subject to duty as well buying south as they are Japanese units. I had a swamper blow on my truck while down there a few weeks back and could not get a new one in short order so I put a set of TOYO MT's on and had to pay duty as well as tax (Japanese tire) even though it was an emergency repair. If you don't have a fantastic fan in you RV buy one. They are pretty good at coolling the rig down. They draw a lot (6-7 amps) but work well. If you get the thermostaticly controlled unit it will shut of at night and refire when it starts heating up in the morning. Close most of the windows exept one where you are sleeping and you will get a nice cross draft. Good for evacuating sceeters as well.

Post Re: Generator
donnymirage, the whole shopping south thing is a hot potato. I'm guilty of it. Generally, i try to deal locally first until I can't take the [ censored ]-stabbing I get from greedy mark ups (either the Cdn distributor or the end retailer). I'll pay more locally for the exchange rate and a small premium but when it's 50-100% more, I'm looking after myself.

But take your position (which is a fair statement), and go a step further; not even further, just a step sideways. What about shopping at Walmart or Princess Auto? All cheap Asian crap, all the time. Exploited child labor markets. Crappy wages for the employees. What about giant US chain like Home Depot instead of the smaller local guy like Wilway Lumber, or Dawson & Brill? Really, Wilway & Dawson & Brill have far superior service, expertise and knowledge. Yet the consumer has shown all that matters is saving $$. Superstore has cheaper labor than Safeway and Save-On, yet service is atrocious, line ups are ridiculous and Superstore is packed and busy and kinda messy displays.

If customer service were important Woodwards and Eatons would still be in business. Stack 'em high and sell em cheap seems to be all that matters to the vast majority nowadays. And I pitty any employee at those places trying to make a living.

MANY Honda products are made in the USA, like their quads and cars. Possibly their generators...but I'd guess those are made in China or somewhere cheaper. Definitely not made in Japan anymore. But yeah, the odd border guard will sting you with duty, but most seem content to collect the 12% HST unless it's a real big ticket item.

none of these 2000-2400W generators will power your AC when you need it 2 days out of the year, will they ?

Costco has Champion with a 20 or 30 AMP socket that should run the AC, and there are lots of used ones for sale. Ya, a bit noisier, but you're used to noise everyday at work with those sirens, so just wear some earplugs. And the Champions are cheap price.

They had one of those big champions going at the school behind my house when the power went out a few months ago. After 4 hours of that P.O.S. running the neighbours were ready to kill. Sounded worse than the old trash pumps we used to have at work for pumping out manholes. Run one of those things and you'll be either dead by mourning or the only camper left!

Sure enough, your right about the price. Only bummer is that you have to have a US address and a US billing address to use Paypal or credit card. They will however take a US money order so that's what I will be using.

Thanks for the info Swansong! I've been looking for a long time for a better price then $999.99.
