 2010 Quads.ca trail clean-up (September 18th)
POST UPDATE:
The Lower Mainland clean-up will be at Lost Creek FSR, at the north end of Sylvester Road in Mission. Saturday Sep 18, meet at 9:00am at the first wide section up the road.
Please post in the thread if you're attending, as I'm providing hotdogs for lunch and need to know how much to buy.
* * * * *Getting the ball rolling. Let's see if we can have more participants this year, from all over the province. Going to have it around the same date as in previous years. What day works best? Saturday September 18 or Sunday September 19? Trip report from our first province-wide clean-up. Greg

 Re: 2010 Quads.ca trail clean-up
Which ever day has the nicest weather. Personally I prefer a Saturday, I tend to bleed a lot during these clean ups and need to regenerate the lost contents. Do we have a destination here locally? Anyone have recommendations? Personally I like to see W.Harrison or someplace in the Chilliwack river valley as these are the two predominate areas users on here frequent. Picking up the same 'ol crap up towards Stave is wearing thin for an area infrequently visited by most on here.

I vote for Saturday as well, and agree we should clean up somewhere more of us ride. Chipmunk area maybe?

 Re: 2010 Quads.ca trail clean-up
I have suggested Chipmunk in the past. However, the reason Lost Creek was chosen for most of the recent clean-ups is because we already have established contacts with regards to bins and services, and it's close to town for the volunteers. And also because it's close to town, it's a popular dumping spot.
It's been my experience that Chipmunk is generally clean, except for the campsites immediately after a weekend.
In addition, the waste companies have balked at delivering bins to long-distance locations, and I don't blame them at all for this because it costs them to deliver bins to us.
Harrison West might be a good location again, especially with the Grace Lake staging area in place, but the waste company won't deliver the bin past the Hatchery parking lot, which presents a logistical problem since we can't ride to there.
Last year, however, we used our own trucks and trailers in lieu of bins, so if we're doing that again we could conceivably have the clean-up wherever we want. This was okay due to the lower number of attendees, but if we have a good turnout we'd require an actual bin or two. Of course, that also depends on the target area; if it's relatively clean then there won't be as much garbage.
But that's why we're discussing it.
Greg

 Re: 2010 Quads.ca trail clean-up
Lost Cr I would say for sure, seems like that place is destined to becoming the next landfill site for the Valley. Its truly amazing the amount of trash that winds up being dumped up there.
Doesn't matter for me, traditionally Sept is a really busy time of the year for me but who knows, I might be free. If I'm in town I'll try to be there either day. LR

Fawk, you finally decide to go back to Saturdays and you make it a day I will be out of town. If I can make it I will. I have commitments the weekend of Sept. 18th to go fishing with my 82 yr old father and I won't put him off.

I'd be in for Saturday Sept 18 . I support doing somewhere we Lower Mainlanders ride frequently. Can use my trailer for hauling if that helps

My vote would be for a Saturday. I ride and camp at Chipmunk alot, but willing to help clean up anywhere that is used by Quads.ca members.

The last time I rode up the FSR to lost creek it was disgusting. Not so much from ATV's but every camp site was littered with thousands of red shot gun shells. And i guess everyone brings up things to shoot at so there are TV's, computers, furniture, burn cars, tents, chairs, a bunch of pink flamingos the list goes on. They are scattered all in to the bush so that they can be used as targets. I'm up for the cause! I think this is a great idea!

Looks like it'll be Saturday September 18, by popular vote. I'll add it to the Home page.
